Notably, there’s a potential security of supply problem in this sector as no new salt mines have been built in North America for 25 years – and every other existing mine is more than half a century old. This has opened the door to a potential battle for control of the premier undeveloped salt project in Canada and the United States, owned by Atlas Salt in Newfoundland.
